How to Be a Ticket Broker and Research Event Tickets

Let’s talk research for a minute. If you’re a ticket broker, you know how crucial it is to research what events will be hot, before you buy them. Because demand is strongest right after the initial onsale, the goal is to predict what shows will sell out quickly. This isn’t always easy, but Box Office Fox can help narrow your focus and filter out the noise.

There are a lot of factors to consider when researching tickets, but try focusing on these key metrics:

Filter Your Search with the Box Office Fox On Sale List

Set your search filters to show tickets going on sale this week. Let’s use this week as an example:

How to Become a Ticket Broker

Use the date filters to search for tickets going on sale this week.

This week is a slower week, with 725 on sale and presale times happening.

Next, click the “Event Name” column header to organize events alphabetically.

Click the “Event Name” column header to sort events alphabetically.

Then, start scrolling through. Members with a Broker Membership can quickly identify hot events by looking for the gold robot, and seeing scores ranked from 1 to 5 for Google Trends and Shazam metrics.

The gold robot means the event has strong historical demand for tickets. The Google Trends indicator shows on a scale of 1 to 5, how much the event is being searched on Google. And the Shazam indicator shows on a scale of 1 to 5 how many times an artist has been Shazammed.

You can also apply a search filter to only show events with a “gold robot”. This feature uses our artificial intelligence powered system.

Star Your Favorite Events

Be sure to click the Star icon beside each event you’re interested in so you can research it further.

Check Social Media Interest

Now that you have a shortlist of event tickets you’d like to resell for the week, start researching the artists further. What are the fans saying? Has the artist just released a new album? Maybe they haven’t toured in a long time? Stay up to date with what’s happening in the ticket industry with industry resources like Ticket News, Celebrity Access, Pollstar, Billboard, Rolling Stone, and by doing a search for the artist on Google News.

Check Prices with the Stubhub Price Analyzer

Lastly, and one of the most important factors in considering what tickets to resell, is how much have similar tickets sold for on the secondary market.

Stubhub gives you price recommendations so you can learn how to price your tickets to sell.

Go through the listing process to list your set of tickets (but don’t actually list them). Towards the end of the listing process, you’ll see a Stubhub price analyzer which shows a price range. You’ll see a recommended price for if you want your tickets to sell quickly, when your price is too high, and and when you’re on the money.

You can also allow Stubhub to automatically price your tickets based on fan demand.

For select events, click on “Get more pricing info” to see what tickets are currently listed for, and how long they’ve been for sale.

Stubhub Pricing Tool

Use the Stubhub Pricing Tool to help price your tickets for resale.
