The Shazam Indicator is a new feature which has been added to Box Office Fox so that you can quickly identify how popular an artist is on Shazam. Shazam is an app that powers that “Whats that song” feature on smartphones – knowing what songs people are identifying with their devices and in which cities those songs are popular brings a new level of understanding to the game.

Imagine this: You can now know what artists people are listening to and which new artists are getting more popular – plus which ones are getting more radio airplay and promotion.. in advance of their tour going on sale. Plus all of this is based on the local market in which the airplay is happening, since Dallas isn’t Phoenix and New York isn’t Vancouver these scores are really useful at showing overall popularity AND local interest in a performer.

What does it look like in the Ticket Database?

For Broker accounts you will see the Shazam column towards the left side of the grid view. By default it is placed after the Google Trends indicator and just before the On Sale date column.

How does Fox use Shazam data to make ticket flipping easier?

We are able to determine a score for each artist based on their performance in the Shazam Charts.

Each individual performance will be given “Shazams” based on their performance in the Shazam charts in the following manner. Points accumulate as they are awarded.

  • 1/2 a point if the artist appears on any chart in the past month.
  • 1/2 a point if the artist appears in the top 200 of any chart in the past month.
  • 1 full point if the artist made the top 100 of any chart in the past month.
  • 1 full point if the artist appears in the top 200 in the same city in which the event is set to take place.
  • 1 full point if the artist appears in the top 20 of any chart in the past 24 hours

Not all events will have a Shazam score.

The idea behind this metric is to highlight artists that are popular in Shazam and who show strength in a local market plus reward artists who are presently doing very well and riding a wave of success.

We feel this metric gives a strong at-a-glance showing for new musical talent and engagement with fans.

On a single event detail page you can find the Shazam Score next to the Google Trends indicator and the Tour History report.
