Established in 1933, the Broncos have achieved numerous on-field successes, including 23 conference championships, six division titles in the Mountain West Mountain Division, and two national championships, one at the junior college level in 1958 and the other in Division I-AA in 1980. They have had seven undefeated seasons (1947, 1948, 1949, 1950, 1958, 2006, and 2009) and nine playoff appearances, including a 2024 appearance in the College Football Playoff. The program has the longest current streak of winning seasons in the FBS with 28 and is 3–1 in the Fiesta Bowl, with wins in 2007, 2010, and 2014.
