Austin Agustín Santos Rosas (born December 23, 1985), better known by his stage name Arcángel, is an American rapper and singer, and the one-half of reggaeton duo Arcángel & De la Ghetto, alongside De la Ghetto. He is often described as one of the most influential artists in the Latin urban genre, as well in Latin music overall, and one of the pioneers of Latin trap music.[2][3]
Around 2002, he became interested in becoming a performer of reggaeton. While living in Puerto Rico, he eventually formed part of a popular then-underground reggaeton act, Arcángel & De la Ghetto, with De la Ghetto. The duo released songs that eventually became popular in the United States and Puerto Rico, including "Aparentemente", "Agresivo", "Sorpresa" and "Mi Fanática" during the mid-2000s. The duo went on to pursue solo careers following their separation in 2007; Arcángel would also start a record label of his own.
In late 2008, Arcángel would release his debut studio album, El Fenómeno. The album included songs that were produced in 2008, as well as the DJ Nelson produced "Chica Virtual", which was produced in 2007 by DJ Nelson and part of the producers album Flow la Discoteka 2. Half of the album also included newly produced tracks, ones including "Pa' Que la Pases Bien" and "Por Amar a Ciegas", which went on to become successful airplay songs on American Latin Urban radio stations across the United States. In 2013, Arcángel would release his second studio album, Sentimiento, Elegancia & Maldad, which was supported by its lead single "Hace Mucho Tiempo", and performed successfully. In 2015, he would collaborate with longtime producer DJ Luian on the album Los Favoritos.
In 2018, the release of Arcángel's third studio album Ares would mark the rapper's transition from reggaeton to Latin trap. In the early 2020s, Arcángel rose to major prominence with his hit single "Sigues Con Él" with Sech, from his fourth studio album Historias de un Capricornio (2019). The single peaked at number 78 on the US Billboard Hot 100, marking the rapper's first appearance on the chart. In late 2022, Arcángel released "La Jumpa" with Bad Bunny, the second single off the rapper's seventh studio album Sr. Santos (2022), which became another hit single for Arcángel, peaking at number 68 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2023, the rapper joined Argentine producer Bizarrap on his 54th music session, which performed similarly to his previous singles, debuting on Latin American charts.
