John Robert Hiatt (born August 20, 1952) is an American singer-songwriter whose recordings have drawn on rock, country, blues, folk and new wave styles.[1][2]

After moving to Nashville at age 18, Hiatt worked as a songwriter for Tree Publishing. Three Dog Night's recording of his song "Sure As I'm Sittin' Here" reached number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1974. His 1987 album Bring the Family marked his chart breakthrough, and songs he wrote later became hits for Bonnie Raitt and Desert Rose Band.[2] Hiatt's compositions have also been recorded by artists including Eric Clapton, Emmylou Harris, B.B. King, Kenny Rogers, Linda Ronstadt and Willie Nelson.[3][4]

Hiatt has received ten Grammy Award nominations, including a 2022 nomination for Best Americana Album for Leftover Feelings, recorded with the Jerry Douglas Band.[5]
